Activity: Director Programming
Overview
Director programming requires gathering all of the necessary artifacts togther and placing them into a director file. Then these files must be linked togther and any interaction within these files must be programmed in. This is usually done using Macromedia Director's Lingo scripting functions.
Relevance
CD: entire contents; Web: splash page only.
Objectives
  • Create director files
  • Link each director file together using Lingo scripting
Items needed from others to begin activity
  • Storyboard
  • Graphic design/layout
  • Image files
  • Written Content
  • Sound files
  • Video files

Sometimes not all of these artifacts will be available, but you can work around them when programming your director file.

Activities
Creating Director files
Director files are created using Macrmedia Director. It is necessary to learn how this program and the Lingo scripting language work, and that you add all of the necessary artifacts that you need into the file. When you ar finished with the file it is created into a director file (.dir file), a stand-alone projecter file (.proj file) or a shockwave file (.dcr file). Only one projector need to be created; it should be the file that is the "introduction" for the CD. Shockwave files are the format that can be embedded into a web page; the proper HTML code is needed to view them in the Internet browser.
Applications utilized
  • Macromedia Director
  • BBedit (or any HTML editor)
  • Netscape Navigator (or any Internet browser)
Items produced and passed on to the next activity
  • Director movies: passed to the programmer
