Activity: Storyboarding
Overview
Storyboarding involves collecting ideas and accessing the project goals and organizing them into a visual display which can present a theme for the project.
Relevance
CD-ROM and Web storyboarding was necessary.
Objectives
  • Arrive at a theme (this can be preliminary to get the ball rolling on ideas)
  • Look over past projects to get some realistic ideas
  • Meet with writer and designer in order to work out the interactions between the content and the theme
  • Create a flowchart to organize content
  • Create a storyboard
Items needed from others to begin activity
  • A theme (sometimes this is not available before storyboarding)
  • A project goal
  • Knowledge of the project's intended audience
Activities
Creating a Content Flowchart
The process involved creating an organizational chart which compiles the information into a workable framework which a storyboard can be based on.
Creating a Storyboard
The storyboard is usually created after the content flowchart and gives a visual representation of what the project will include and how each section of the project links together in the proposed theme.
Presentation
The storyboard must be presented to the project group after completion in order to look for any interaction problems and to discuss whether or not the right theme has been chosen for the project.
Editing the Storyboard
After the storyboard has been presented any problems or errors must be addressed and edited into (or out of) the storyboard.
Applications utilized
  • Adobe Illustator
  • Adobe Pagemaker
  • Microsoft Powerpoint
Items produced and passed on to the next activity
