Activity: Video and Sound Editing
Overview
Video editing includes both digitizing VHS video and editing the clips to eliminate pauses to adjust them to the desired length. It may also include creating video of a computer screen, to show mouse movements and present demonstrations to the user. Sound editing involves recording the various sounds, music, and voice-overs, then editing and compiling the clips.
Relevance
CD: video and sound; website: sound only
Objectives
  • Produce video and sound components for the CD and website, so that they are truly multimedia presentations
Items needed from others to begin activity
  • VHS video from studio session and any other taping
  • Audio tapes from interviews and voiceover taping sessions
  • Scripts for voiceovers
  • Music selections
  • List of screen shots needed (both still and moving demonstrations)
Activities
Moving screen shot capture
The process involved checking the list of screen shots needed, and locating websites/applications that were to be illustrated. Software to perform the capture was located, downloaded, and installed. Following the specifications provided about the content/behavior that the screen shot needed to demonstrate, the video artist performed the actions and recorded them, then edited them.
Video editing
The process involved three steps: digitizing, editing, and compiling final versions. Video was captured from VHS tape and saved in digital format. It was then edited to both remove pauses and unnecessary footage and adjust it to the desired length. Final versions of the clips were compiled in the apporpriate formats.
Sound Editing
The process involved four steps: recording, digitizing, editing, and compiling final versions.
