Maintenance Options

Yet another option to maintain and update your intranet is to use software to automate the process (Helinski, 1997). An example of this is WebPost. All of WebPost’s architecture resides on the server. The web forms, viewed through any browser, are its only client components [see Fig. 4]. WebPost eliminates the menial tasks of a webmaster’s work which can be performed by a beginner.

Large companies are prone to have offices throughout the world and must fax or email their input to one or more Web departments. The material would then be hand coded or converted to HTML with a program. This would then be uploaded to the Web server. With WebPost, the Webmaster installs and customizes WebPost (Helinski, 1997).

Helinski also describes another program that automates web management processes. This is SiteWrapper, software that automates link updates and other common time-consuming tasks along with a plug-in, SiteColors, which allows you to use SiteWrapper to change the look of your site on the fly.
